LEARN has launched a series of PD web events. Participation is open to
educators across the province and beyond. (But we are sending this to SS PLC members first, because spaces are limited!)
Upcoming Event: Social Sciences online: Great tools we can use together!
Date: November 12th, 2012
Time: 8 to 9 p.m.
Target Audience: Elementary, Cycle 2 & 3 and Secondary
Presenter: Paul Rombough
As students of social sciences our methodology demands we explore problems, find information, interpret facts and develop informed opinions. In the classroom we do this as individuals, but we also interact with others, in groups and with partners, expressing ourselves then sharing ideas, revising our work and constructing knowledge together. But can this collaborative process happen online? This presentation provides activity ideas that answer that question, using tools like Google Docs, Voicethread, Blogs, Prezi, and introducing the new Cartograf application for building shared maps and geographical sketches!

Bookflix: LEARN has purchased the license to Scholastic BookFlix. If teachers log in to Learn Quebec, they will see the link appear on their home page, which will take them directly to teh site, without further log ins.
A blurb from their site describes it as:
“Introducing BookFlix, the new interactive literacy resource that builds a love of reading and learning – online! BookFlix pairs classic fictional video storybooks from Weston Woods with nonfiction eBooks from Scholastic to reinforce reading skills and develop essential real-world knowledge and understanding. Perfect for use in the classroom, school library, and public library, BookFlix is accessible to every child – early readers, reluctant readers, and English Language Learners.”
I have yet to explore their database myself, but i am sure many of you will have fun with it, as will I.
